Healthier Chicken Parm

Today was another busy one! I had work and then ran to the store to get Josh some more Gatorade and tissues. He is definitely feeling better today (and thanks you all for the well wishes!).

Once home, I went for a four mile run and then did 1/2 hour of body attack. Since I was already a sweaty mess, I decided to clean upstairs and then make din din. Healthy chicken parm served with organic pasta and broccolini. This meal is so good- I suggest you try it if you like regular chicken parm!

Josh's plate:

Mine:
And... because Erin requested it yesterday, some pictures of the Frankster, trying his hardest to get some chicken parm:

Question for all of you- have you attended any baby showers? Did they play any cool games or do anything special for the mother-to-be that you thought was just awesome? Please let me know!

Yum, chicken parm is one of my faves! I don't think I ever mentioned it, but I like how you show Josh's plate compared to yours.

Awww, puppy! I want to give him kisses!
Did you mean baby shower? If so, I just went to one and the host had us give her a baby picture of ourselves in advance and then we had to match the pictures to the guests. She mixed in pictures of celebrities to make it harder. It was pretty fun, and I HATE games at showers!

Baby shower ideas: guess the flavor of baby food or put clothespins on each guest and if you catch someone crossing their legs you get to take their pin.

Love your chicken parm!! Been to many baby showers...(2 of my own!)...
Baby bingo is always fun (guests fill out bingo cards with items they think mom will receive as gift, then cross off as mom opens gifts), so is a game where you put a number of baby items into a covered box, and guests are to "feel" the items and guess what they are...

Frank is adorable!! ;)

I've been seeing a lot of chicken parmesan on the internet lately - I think it's a sign that I need to make it!

Hey, do you ever use whole wheat or brown rice pasta? I like the whole wheat stuff, can't really notice a difference.

For baby showers? My favorite game is the string game. Every guest gets a long piece of string to cut to the length they think would fit around the pregnant friend's belly. So, the circumference at the widest part. Everyone guesses and cuts their string, then you measure her belly and the closest guess wins! Usually people WAY overguess. :-)

I could eat chicken parm every week.

I have to go to a baby shower in a few weeks. I have not been to one in a while.

frank!!! oh man...he and oscar and two peas in a pod when it comes to begging.

I just went to my friend's baby shower and this isnt really a game, but still fun. We each got a page of a scrap book and was given a theme. (I had bathtime)We then decorated our page so that the mother-to-be could add pictures later. It was fun and she has a personal scrapbook all ready to fill in with pictures!

I've been to baby showers where they've played:

Guess the size of the mom - you use a string to cut what you think the size of the mom's belly is.

One where there are certain qualities, hair color, athletic ability, etc. where you have to write whether the parents want the kid to inherit the trait from mom or dad and then the mom reveals their answers.

Heather (Hangry Pants) on Mark's account.

i threw a baby shower for my sister in law. we had the guess the poop game. lol. you have mashed up chocolate candy in different diapers and the guest are supposed to guess what candy it is. its hilarious to watch. you even see some guests sampling the "poop"!!

Frankster is soooo sweet in that picture!

The chicken parm looks amazing. I love easy recipes that taste so good!

A neat idea at a shower I went to was they asked the father questions, like "At what age will you let your daughter start dating?" and "What qualities do you want your child to have that your wife has?" We all filled out what we thought he'd say beforehand, and then we watched the video of the dad to see how many we got right. So fun!

Hey! Thanks for leaving your input about BodyPump! I by no means meant to imply it isn't a good class and isn't good for strength, I definitely think it is! It's just not as much variety as I'm used to. :)

AND - I recently realized the "bootcamp" class I go to is actually BodyAttack! Ha! I love that class!

Looks yummy!! Frank is such a cutie. I went to a baby shower where we played a BINGO game. What we did was fill out a BINGO card with all the gifts that we thought she would get (the middle square was a free one). As the mommy-to-be opened her gifts the guests would mark the BINGO card. I really don't like showers - BORING - but having something to do while watching her open gifts made it go by a smidge faster.

I can't wait until I can run outside. It is still too cold here. I love my elliptical but I am ready to get OUT!
I am not a big fan of games at showers:) I prefer to mingle and have good food:)

This sounds gross, but there is a game where you put different melted candy bars in a diaper and have the guests guess what the candy bar is. Ok, probably shouldn't of suggested it, but everyone loved it! Are you planning a shower?

yum on the chicken parm

your dog is too cute!

i've been to 2 babyshowers with no games.

one thing we did do was decorate a bunch of white onesies with puffy paint and fabric paint - that was fun! b/c you can never have enough onesies!

there was a string across the room and we used clothes pins to pin the onesies to the line to dry :)

That looks really good! I know that most of the ones I've seen do the quiz game or make teams put diapers on things like watermelons or cantelope, things like that.

At my sister-in-law's baby shower we played this sort-of gross game where the hostess melted different chocolate bars and put them in diapers. Each guest had to taste the candy bar (out of the diaper) and guess what it was. I thought it was creative... but mostly because I guessed all of them right! :)

amanda said...

Delish! I will definitely be
giving this Chicken Parm a try.

Baby showers...so fun!
Umm...here are just a couple of
ideas.

-Fill a jar up with M&M's and as each guest comes in have them guess the number of M&M's. The closest guess wins a prize.

-As the mom-to-be is opening her presents, set a timer for 7 minutes. When the timer buzzes-whoever the gift is from wins a prize.

-You can tie a piece of string somewhere along the wall or in the middle of the room. Have each guest bring a little gift for it. Like socks, a onesie, a pair of pants, a hat...and they can clothespin it to the string. Just a neat little decoration.

orrr...

-Have each guest bring their favorite book. Have them keep it unwrapped. And as the guest brings their book put it in a ready to go basket or laundry basket or whatever...and stack them in there to give to the new mama.

I love planning!

Love me some Frank action!!!

Baby shower games - yuck. Honestly, I dread them. I would much rather just gather for a fun brunch or something with the mom-to-be. That being said, I have attended a Blessing Way before instead of a baby shower. It was so different and really special - we all picked out a bead from a bowl of really cool ceramic beads and then gave it to the mom-to-be with our wishes for the baby. After she had collected all beads, she strung them together to wear as a bracelet - one that she could give to the baby someday.

PS - Glad Josh is feeling better. :)

MY FRANK!!!!!!!!!!!
HI BABY! IT'S AUNTIE!!!!!!! I love him so much.
Keep on getting better Josh!
I've never been to a shower!

Lori said...

Yay, Frank! Oh, he cracks me up.

Games - I like the baby food one where you take all the labels off and put numbers on each lid. Each person has to write down what they think the flavor of each jar is.

Another is the memory game where you put a bunch of baby things on a tray and pass it around the room letting everyone get a look. Then they have a specified about of time to write down everything they remember.

CUTE PUPSTERR!! I am going to a baby shower in a few months so I need the same advice!! :D

Your puppy is adorable and your chicken parm looks like something I'd love.

As for baby shower games, there's one that stands out in my mind. It's a game of memory, but each correct match corresponds with a candy bar that's given to the guest who made the match. For example, making the "girl" match gets you a Baby Ruth bar. The "boy" match earns you an Oh, Henry. My favorite one is the OBGYN match for which the guest would receive a Butterfinger bar. You can google "baby shower candy bar match game" and get the rest of the list.

The other one I've seen done a lot lately is the celebrity baby name game. You give the names of the parents and guests write down the baby's name. Whoever guesses the most right wins.

And I do love chicken parm., and I am so guilty of making it fattening. I'll try this next.
