I ended up crashing around 10 pm last night (I'm a party animal, what can I say). As a result, I woke up at 6:50 AM and couldn't go back to sleep! I got up and did some laundry/ironing/dishes and then went for a quick run outside (2.4 miles). After, I went to Body Pump. It felt good to get a good workout in. The rest of my day was spent cleaning up some more of the boxes in the house and giving Frankster a bath. My throat has been starting to bother me (I hope I'm not getting what Josh had last week), so I took some meds and a nap.
After my workout today, I tried another kind of Jay Robb protein, Strawberry Egg White protein. I have been looking for a good protein powder for a while, as I do not think I am getting enough protein most days(0.8 grams of protein per kg of body mass to 1.2 g/kg per day). The following are my thoughts, I am not a dietitian or a nutritionist, so if any readers are- please provide feedback and comments on the nutritional information and I will post them up tomorrow!
A single serving of Jay Robb contains (according to the Jay Robb website):
- 24 Grams Of Protein Per Serving
- Lactose Free
- No Fat
- No Cholesterol
- No MSG
- No Aspartame
- No Acesulfame-K
- No Sucralose
- No Artificial Flavors
- No Artificial Sweeteners
- No Artificial Colors
- From Chickens Not Treated with Hormones
Ingredients: Egg albumin, xylitol, natural flavor, xanthan gum, lecithin, stevia, citric acid, red beet powder.
I mixed mine up with 1 cup of milk and a few ice cubs in my magic bullet. The packet contains 120 calories and the 1% milk I used contains 100 calories per cup. All together, this little mix has 220 calories.
The flavor was subtle, but delicious, and the powder mixed in perfectly with the milk (thank you Mr. Magic Bullet). Over the next week, you will see me testing a few more powders. For more awesome info on protein powders, check out this post on the Broccoli Hut
Do you use protein powder or take any supplements?

PLEASE SEE MY CURRENT VIDEO POST FOR A SNEAK PREVIEW ABOUT MY NEW FAVORITE PROTEIN POWDER!!!
:-)
Oh wow, I have never hard PP before. My brother has a lot though.. LOL
I haven't tried Jay Robb powder, but have seen it on a lot of different sites. I keep looking for it, but haven't seen it around here.
I say this every time but, oh Jay Robb and his bulging biceps ;)
I haven't tried my packet of that yet so thanks for the review! Fingers crossed you don't get sick!!
I use the Whole Foods brand Whey Protein Powder. I kind of picked it up on a whim, so I don't know if it's the best quality one on the market. Still learning when it comes to protein powders. :)
I used my Magic Bullet to mix up a smoothie today!
That sounds like a very good quality protein powder! I saw them at whole foods the other day and I may just need to buy some next time. :) I really try not to take supplements or use protein powders, but every once in a while I think they are okay! Have a fantastic Sunday evening!
Oh don't you just love your magic bullet?? I LOVE LOVE LOVE mine. So easy to use! About protein powders and such, I'm really more a fan of whole foods than supplements. I'm a little wary of things like xylitol and stevia and whatever else is in there, yah know? But that's just me :-)
No, I can't believe it's Sunday night!!!
About your last post, YES, I definitely stress about it!! haha. Your dinner looked DELICIOUS and you did a GREAT job : )
I think I need to get myself a magic bullet! It looks much more convenient than my big blender!
I've used Jay Robb's chocolate and vanilla whey protein powders, but I don't use any of them regularly. I don't think I've been getting enough protein lately, so I've really been trying to pay closer attention. I've been eating more Greek yogurt, eggs, beans and such, but I don't think it would hurt for me to incorporate more of these powders on a regular basis.
I'm looking forward to hear about your experiments this week!
Oh no! I hope you're not getting sick little cutie tootie!
THat Jay Robb is kind of sexy!
I am protein powder powerhouse! I have at least one scoop a day! I love it! I get it from GNC. It's funny because the other customers tend to be very large orange men. ;)
I love Jay Robb! I actually like the chocolate whey powder.
I hope you're not getting sick either!
I don't take any protein supplements. Only a calcium pill for my strong bones.
Thanks for the shout-out! I think it goes without saying that I use protein powder...a lot.
No protein powder for me, but glad you had a nice good weekend!
I've tried good ol J-Robb's, not bad i agree! I have chocolate hemp protein, a new find, in my cupboard right now..and i'm a little scared b/c Caroline (broccoli hut) said it's a little weird and gritty to first timers :D!!
I like that protein powder for travel...mainly because its packets and low carb (I like to put it in my oatmeal) ---for some reason I never think to reach for it at home!
No, I don't take PP as supplement since I'm not vegeterian and I get protein from food everyday. :D
Thanks for the review! This is one of the few protein powders that my grocery store carries, but I've never tried it. You've made me brave enough to buy some next time I'm there.
I don't take any protein supplements...but I've been thinking lately about trying a powder. It's just one of those things, though, there are SO MANY out there! I can't wait to see what you think of the others.
And your dinner party looked fabulous! Such a great hostess. :-) I hope you aren't getting sick - take care of yourself! Hope you had a good weekend, girl.
I see you have a magic bullet! I love mine! Have a great monday!
My boyfriend had some protein powder that i was using until i noticed it had expired! so we need to pick up some more, but I want to get a good one. This will help!
Great review, I've never used protein powder but I'm definitely willing to, so I'm shopping around for a good one.
I've had that powder...LOVED the flavor!! I like to make protein shakes once in a while (usually not in the winter though...too cold). I don't have it regularly but it's yummy once in a while...I like to blend it up with frozen strawberries!
I am so glad you are testing out these powders! I REALLY need to find a good one and soon. I workout even more once the weather is nice so my body is going to be begging for some protein!
Hi Erica, that shake looks good. Just an fyi, the USDA prohibits the use of hormones in all poultry. So that label is just a feel-good term for consumers.
Belated comment on your dinner party post -- but, yes, I am a wreck when I have to cook for other people! I'm fine when it's for my family, but if I have to do anything for anyone else, I become a big ball of nerves! You should have seen me yesterday trying to make oatmeal raisin cookies for a friend -- disaster!
In other news, I don't take any supplements, unless you count excessive amounts of peanut butter and tea as supplements. :)
Great review! I'm going to check this out!
I tend to eat a lot of meat and fish so I have never tried protein powder. Interesting application here and way to get your protein in without adding too many calories!
I used to use both whey and soy protein powders, but I've personally gotten away from it. I can see the purpose for others, but I'm really trying to get my nutrients from food and not supplements. Just a personal choice.
I take a multi-vitamin! Looks good though!
A Daily Flintstone (seriously) and Sugar Free Tums for extra calcium. Build those bones ladies! I also take fish oil pills and Vitamin B-12. I really like protein powder, but have been trying to wean myself off artificial sweetners, which, unfortunately, figure promiently in all my fave protein powders, including J-Robb, I THINK, may be wrong there. He's delicious, but expensive. I usually go for whatever generic brand whey protein that's low sugar/carb. I'll do soy protein now and again, too. I enjoy protein bars (soy and whey), powders (soy and whey), and soy burgers, so I try to consider all that when I think about my day's eats. For example, if I've already had some protein powder with whey, I might think twice before reaching for that whey detour bar. I'm not sure why I have a hangup on it. I do it big time for soy, and then just a bit for whey. I hate all the controversy surrounding soy intake. You should do a post on that please.
ive never used any protein powder...i know its al over the blog world, but i dont think im doing any exercise that intense to justify it...i just cant get rid of the association with a wrestler/football jock with a neck thicker than my leg out of my head
I've never seen that protein powder before, but it sounds good and I'm almost out!
I take a ridiculous amount of supplements and have protein powder once or twice every couple of weeks.
I love this one from Jay Robb. I'm so excited that you are doing reviews of protein powders. One of my goals for the upcoming warm months is to make a protein shake/smoothie every day. I think I may have to be slightly less ambitious and say 5 days a week, but still - it will be good to know which ones get the Itzy's Kitchen seal of approval!!
Jay Robb is excellent and does taste good. However, I’ve found another brand that i feel is better quality. i like it better than Jay Robb. The only down side is that it only comes in 2 flavors - vanilla & chocolate. check out http://allnutri.com/bid1421/jay+robb.aspx
