Salad Addict, Stir Fry, Amazing Grass

Hi all! Thank you for your comments about heart rate monitors. Although I REALLY want a Garmin....I do teach group finesses classes indoors and I know the Garmin doesn't really work well in those conditions. I think I am between a Polar F6 and F11.

Did you have a good day? My day at work was semi slow. I came home and made up our dinners (to be consumed later in the night). For me, I cooked up some bell peppers, garlic, pinto beans, and corn in a little bit of olive oil. I tossed the cooked veggies on top of some spinach and tomatoes. I tossed this in the fridge and enjoyed it after I taught Body Attack with a thick slice of the bread Kath and Matt brought.

For Josh, I stir fried up some turkey, baby corn and water chestnuts in stir fry sauce. I topped it with some sesame seeds.

The most exciting part of my day is the package I received from Amazing Grass.

I won these goods from a contest on Run to The Finish!! Since I had a lighter dinner, I decided to give the Chocolate Whole Food Energy Bar a go. According to the Amazing Grass website, the bars are:
  • Raw
  • Cold Processed
  • Alkaline
  • Gluten Free
  • Dairy Free
  • Vegan

"Our Green SuperFood powder has a high concentration of naturally-occurring enzymes, carotenoids, phytonutrients and antioxidants that work synergistically to fight free radicals, remove toxins and repair damaged cells. Ultimately, our products contain every amino acid, vitamin, and mineral necessary to sustain human life. Since the human body is designed to get nutrition from whole foods, the body is able to efficiently and rapidly absorb the nutrients in Green SuperFood and quickly convert them to energy to fuel your body. "

Nutritional Information:

  • 230 calorie bar
  • 9 grams of fats (healthy omegas)
  • 5 grams of protein.
  • 27 grams of sugar only 2 grams is from the cane sugar)
  • 37 grams of carbohydrates

Taste-wise, the bar was delicious. Very chocolaty in a natural, non-fake kind of way. I liked the chunks of cacao nibs. However, 230 calories is a lot for a snack bar and they only contain 5 grams of protein :( The bar is a nice size, but it isn't so large that I'd want to break it into 2 snack sized portions. I think I would use this bar as a part of a meal.

I am planning on trying the green superfood powder in my first green monster tomorrow!! Any suggestions on add ins?

I received some Amazing Grass today too! I just finished a little smoothie with almond milk, half a frozen banana, and a packet of the chocolate infusion powder. While I wouldn't mistake it for a McDonald's chocolate milkshake, it was pretty damn good! I can't wait to hear your impressions.

I have some amazing grass on the way - I can't wait to get it!

I make my green monsters with 1 frozen banana, 1/2 cup milk, 1 tbs peanut butter, 1/2 tsp of flax and two handfuls of spinach. I am excited to try the different amazing grass combos!

I haven't found a good mix yet.... I tried just water and it was still tasty- then i tried milk and mango with the green powder which was good as well.

Let me know if you find a great combo!

I haven't tried those bars, but I am looking for a good one. Any others you like? I would prefer one with a little less calories and more protein. And one I can choke down..ha! Great salad!

That is so exciting that you're thinking about a heart monitor! I really want a Garmin, too. Maybe you could get the Polar now for inside and a Garmin at Christmas? Worth a shot? ;-)

I'm anxious to see what you think of the AG! I tried it once, in a smoothie, and it was just meh. Maybe it was the flavor/kind I got. The bars sounds really good, too!

banana and pineapple. You don't need much, but they make it taste sweet and mask the green taste!

I agree with you on that chocolate amazing grass bar! It tasted good and I love that it's nutritious, but it's a little caloric for me :)

I might have to give the bar a try. I am always on the lookout for a good vegan bar that I can turn to in a jam.

I noticed the caloric density of these bars as well. It would be a nice part of a meal. Maybe they will eventually make a snack size version like LARA bars did!
