EatSmart Scale, Shrimp Salad, Potatoes

Hi guys! Sorry about another MIA day. Things for the next month or so are going to be super busy around here...so you may see my blogging dwindle just a bit. Quick Review of yesterday/today:

Monday: Work, 2 mile run, 45 minute spin, LOTS of errands, dinner, more work, bed

Today: Work, housework, took Frank for a walk, prepped dinner:

Salads (this is Josh's (which I post because a bigger salad just looks so much more awesome)- spinach, shrimp (I used beans on mine), water chestnuts, oranges, walnuts, broccoli slaw, and will later be topped with a dressing of olive oil and lemon juice):

Later on tonight, I will bake up potatoes to go with our salads (idaho for him, sweet for her):

In other news, the wonderful people at EatSmart sent me this awesome food scale to test out:

It is small and simple (PERFECT):

I plan to give it, its first run tomorrow while I bake! I will report back on my thoughts :)
Do you use a food scale? Do you use it for measurement purposes for baking or for calorie counting/portion control?

I've wanted a scale for quite a while now but have never buckled down to buy one! I want one for baking purposes and just because I am a numbers kind of gal! Hence, why I want an HRM so badly!

Hope your busy days aren't too craazy!

Nice scale, I mesure things with my measuring cups if I follow a certain recipe, or when I eat cereal or granola.

1) I *hate* water chesnuts. Just in case you were wondering.
2) A sweet potato for the sweet! :D
3) I have a food scale and used it religiously. For everything. Back in the day, when I was calorie counting. NOW, I use it mostly for measuring ingredients in recipes... especially in baking where precision is key. Or if it says use a 4 oz container of feta and all I have is a huge 40 oz container from Costco! hehe...

I use my food scale several times a day - I can't imagine not using it! Not only for portion control, but also to control my diabetes, its literally a lifesaver for me! :D

I don't use a food scale but I really want one! I think I'd only use it for proteins though...

That salad looks incredible!!

I don't use a scale for portion control (I should though), but I looooove using a scale for baking. Everything is much more accurate and it makes life easier.

That scale looks so nifty. I'm definitely looking for gadgets to own once I move into an apartment in the next year or so, a scale would be nice to have around!

I like your scale! That's neat. I've actually been wanting a scale to use but I don't know what kind I want to use.

You made me hungry for a sweet potato! ; )

Kate said...

I use mine for weighing out my proteins :)

I want a food scale! I need one for measuring pasta since I can't control myself and eat like 3 portions, lol.

Your salads always look so pretty! I've never used a food scale before, I don't think I would have the patience to weigh out all my foods haha. In theory it sounds good though!

yes food scale is a necessity in the kitchen! :) yours looks so cool!

That salad is quite pretty!

How cool that they sent you a food scale. I definitely would love this tool for my kitchen.

Hope you are having a great week!

I need to start summarizing like you - NICE! And great workouts!! I LOVE my food scale, I weigh everything for making recipes, counting out portions, etc. Once I started and realized how off packaged products' servings sizes were and how off my portions were (on things like chicken) it was a fan favorite!!

I use a scale for baking/cooking. Can't live without it! Good luck with your busy days ahead.

I love that little scale. So convenient.

I've seen that scale at the store! so fun! I use a scale, but not nearly as fancy as that one! I just use it for measuring ingredients in finicky recipes

No, we don't use a scale. Your salad looks really good!

Be well! Isn't it fun to try product out!

I probably should use a food scale... it is so hard to judge portions of certain foods.

Great looking salad!!

I haven't used a food scale, but I want to try one out eventually for baking purposes more than for portion purposes. They look like really awesome tools.

Ooh Erica! GOod luck with the craze craze! I have scaled down my food scale use (bad pun) but still do a few times a week :) I hope you enjoy your new prezzy! Kisses to you, Josh, and FRANKKKKKKK!

how cool that you got a food scale to try out. i use mine, but only for certain things such as meats and such

I have never used a food scale...but I've always wanted to! I need a scale specifically for nut butters.

Can't wait to see what you think about it!

Anne said...

Your scale looks so silvery and shiny!! Haha I love it. I do use a food scale for nut butters and for baking (measuring out ingredients by weight), so I can make sure I'm getting the right ratios! Measuring cups can be way off, especially with flour.

I have digital scales and I love them! I use them for baking and weighing portions. I'm definitely not fanatical about it but sometimes it's hard to estimate a reasonable portion size.

The salad looks delicious, light, but so filling for a complete meal - bookmarking...

mmm Josh is lucky with those shrimpies!

I've never used a food scale but have definitely always wanted to give one a try! Hope it works out good :)

As far as kitchen scales go, I do use mine when I bake to get accurate amounts, but as for everyday eating I don't use it and I don't think I'd want to because it might become somewhat obsessive. But that's a nice one you got! :-)

I feel ya on the busy-ness! This week is crazy!!

If I had a food scale, I wouldn't use it for calorie counting/portion control BUT I think it would be very beneficial to baking (especially bread). Hope you enjoy playing with it :)

Have a good (and not crazy!) Wednesday!!

I love my food scale! I use it mostly for portion control where meat is concerned....

That salad looks so good. Shrimp and greens make up my favorite meal!

I've never used a food scale before, but I'm excited to see how you like yours!

Awwww. You two Potatoes look so good together.

I used to use my food scale CONSTANTLY, but since I have gotten into less obsessive eating habits (thank God), I use it pretty rarely. I mean, I was weighing LETTUCE back in the dark days. Really?! It's definitely a great thing to have around, though--sometimes recipes give ingredients by weight, so the scale comes in handy.

yummm that salad looks delish! i haven't used a food scale yet but i have been noticing that a lot of bloggers do and i def want to try one. can't wait to hear what you think! happy humpday :)

That was so great of them to send you a food scale! I've been on the lookout--I'm in dire need of one but don't really want to spend toooo much money! Some of them are expensive!

i actually love my food scale. i bought it several years ago and i'm always surprised at how much i use it. i love your digital one though!

Alison Can Read said...

I love my scale. It's good to evenly split things or to measure out servings that can otherwise be deceiving (like cereal).

Being Healthier said...

in class we have to use one all the time...

I have one at home but I NEVER use it...... maybe I will start. hmmm.
thanks for the reminder!
