Sesame Crusted Tuna, Healthy Eating Rules & Body Pump

Hooray for Wednesday!! Glad you all enjoyed the Body Attack video and thank you for responding with your healthy rules. Here is a quick summary of some of your rules/thoughts:
  • Eat lots of fruits and veggies (Maria eats an apple a day (which I think is fabulous), and Eve tries to make her plates at least half fruits and veggies (wonderful tip!))
  • Drink plenty of water (Taylor aims for 64 ounces of plain water aside from her other beverages- great job girl!)
  • Eat balanced meals (proteins, fats, carbs)
  • Eat mini meals
  • Portion control desserts (Jenna likes to "live a little" (such a great phrase!!) and have a few pieces of candy or a little dessert every day)
  • Stephanie noted she never skips a meal because it just leads to overeating (agreed!)
  • MizFit eats intuitively (she just rocks :))
  • Jessica tries to make sure she is actually hungry when she eats (not just eating to eat- another great tip)

My day started off right with a quick run and Body Pump. Body Pump is Les Mills barbell strength class that provides me with my huge muscles ;). Here is a quick promo video to make you want to lift some weights:

After pump, I had work and then ran some errands. I adjusted my plans for dinner tonight because I wanted to use up a lot of our fresh produce. For Josh, I made Tuna Medallions with a Sesame Crust based on this recipe (I wish I liked tuna....). I was VERY nervous about making this as I have never seared anything. Josh had his tuna with a dinosaur plum:

...and a big spinach salad with pea pods, broccoli, broccoli slaw, water chestnuts, whole wheat cous cous, almonds, and a little olive oil...

And here is the tuna! I over cooked it just a hint (but I was nervous!):

All together now:

I had another lovely mix of tomatoes, peppers, onions, green beans and white beans with a little olive oil and chili powder, cooked under the broiler in the oven in tin foil. I put the cooked veggies on top of crisp romaine with some salsa. YUM!

And cantaloupe = this times 2 plus nut butter :)

and.............Josh (so so sweet) stopped on his way home and picked up my FAVORITE candy as a special treat. What a guy....love these raspberries and blackberries and I hardly ever eat them :)

On a side note, I also did Polly's Yoga for Runners today. Felt fabulous! Do you do any yoga, tai chi or pilates? If so and you're a runner, do you feel like you have a better run the day after a yoga practice? I definitely do!!

Top Chef tonight- hooray.

Nice job on the tuna! I've been doing mat pilates and yoga off and on for years. I think they are such great workouts, but definitely require some patience.

Those are great rules to follow! I agree with not skipping a meal. It always leads to over eating. I also always try to make sure my meals are full of fiber to fill me up!

That salmon looks awesome!

the tuna looks great! i must have missed your healthy eating tips question...my biggest challenge (that i've pretty much overcome) is drinking enough water. thanks to my Camelbak water bottle i get about 72-96 oz of water a day. i know that sounds like a lot, but it's only 3-4 full bottles...it helps SO much...i'll be blogging about it later this week.

Okay, for real, that tuna looks awesome (totally restaurant quality w/ the sesame seed crust girl!) P.S. I love eating off square plates just like in your pic, I don't know why, it's just a thing that really makes me happy haha?!

Nice job on the tuna, and the salads looks good. I feel calmer during my runs after I've done yoga the night before. I have Les Mills at my rec center. I really need to check it out. group fitness classes intimidate me sometimes.

Ooh cool video:) Your tuna dinner looks so good! Nice job, girl.

I like to do yoga, but I really need to try better at fitting it in my routine.

Great meal! I incorporate some yoga and pilates into my workouts. Love it. I need to get back into going to the studio though, no time! I found a place that has your body pump class. I want to go try it!

Jenna said...

Ahhh, thanks for the shout out! Much appreciated. :)

I have never done yoga or pilates, but I would really like to give it a shot. Jenna (Eat Live Run) has talked about yogadownloads.com before, so I may hit up that for a beginners course!

Have a wonderful evening. Love your blog by the way!

Great tips... Thank you for posting those. After being on vacation for a week... I need some great reminders to get me back on track!

Body Pump looks right up my alley! I LOVE strength training big time. I'd rather do that over anything else!

I do yoga... but only once or twice a week. I need to make more time for it! I had much more definition in my arms when I was doing it a bit more frequently!

I have so many of your posts to catch up on! Gonna go do that now! have a great night sweetie!

What a sweetie you have there!! I've never seen that candy before, but YUM. Where do you get them?? There are only, like, 3 different types of candy I don't like. :-)

Those tips were all wonderful.

Tuna can be hard to cook, but it looks like you did a great job. You can never go wrong with spinach salad either.

I definitly feel less tightness in my legs after yoga and it will normally last for a few days. That in itself is worth my time practicing yoga. I also just love the way it helps me to connect with my body.

Lainie said...

I love, love, love that candy!!! And your seared ahi looks incredible - it looks professional, too!!!

I need to do more yoga...I've been slacking lately. I miss it.

Tuna looks great! I have grown to love it really overcooked since that's how it always turns out when I make it :P

i hear a lot of people mixing up yoga with running- I don't do either but it seems popular!

Dinosaur Plum? That gives me an idea. I'll name all my food after an prehistoric animal and my kid just might start eating it. Brilliant! (I start tonight)

thanks for the summary of healthy eating rules.
body pump is so fun and really good strength work, I used to do it twice a week! :)

yoga? yeah~~ as much as I can even though I'm not a runner!

Ada said...

OMG that tuna looks absolutely gorgeous!!!! It looks even better than the kind prepared in a restaurant! Josh must've been one happy hubby:)

I wish I could say I do yoga after I run but, unfortunately, I never do. I've heard it works wonders for recovery though!

Lauren said...

Funny you say this, because I just did a quick and refreshing yoga routine after my run this morning. Everytime I do this, I realize I need to do it more often. I think I will do it again tomorrow. It just feels so great! ;)

Have a wonderful day beautiful!

I now work out at 24-hour Fitness but I seriously MISS the Les Miles classes at Gold's Gym. Body Pump and Body Attack were some of my favorites. I once burned 700+ calories in Body Attack. That teacher was c-r-a-z-y.

I've only recently began to like tuna...I need to man up and cook it! I WISH I could of been taking Body Pump all year leading up to the wedding. It's cruel irony that you're so insanley busy befre your wedding that theres not enough time to workout like you should AND combined with lots of fun parties with lots of FOOD!! Cruel I tell you :) Ohhh those candies bring back memories!

Diana said...

Major props for that tuna--I would have been scared too, trust me!

I love bodypump! I always feel so strong after a class.
I do yoga about once a week, body flow, and sometimes I feel like my quads are extra sore the next day. I have really tight hammies so I know I need to get the extra stretching in!

How do you feel about Eve getting kicked off? I think it was an easy choice!

Anonymous said...

Oh MAN, that is one of my favorite ways to eat tuna. I can't wait to make it!

I'm saving the body pump video to watch when I get home from work. So cool! Thanks for posting it.

Yoga For Runners is my favorite download :-)

Great advice!
I usually overcook fish - it's so hard to figure it out. And unless you have sushi grade, it's nervewracking to undercook it.

I'm heading to Body Pump in an hour! Can't wait!
Yay for that wonderful looking dinner - the salad with couscous etc looks just fab.
