Happy Friday Eve!! Rest assured miss Erica will be back posting very soon I promise! But I've definitely had a blast holding down the Itzy’s fort =) Do you guys have any special weekend plans? Any sweet Vday happenings? I think the hubs and I will just be doing the low key thing…probably a quiet night at the house with our pups and some takeout =) And I am so good with that!
So, onto the topic at hand…I do believe I have perfected my taco seasoning blend and I wanted to try it out the other day on a filling taco salad. I hadn’t made one in a while and thought it would be a nice simple yummy dinner.
Set on top of chopped crisp romaine, I used chopped tomato, black beans, cucumbers, shredded cheese, seasoned ground turkey, tortilla chips placed around the plate, and topped off with my Pace Salsa! (disclaimer: I received this product for free) So good, so filling, so perfect =)
So, here’s my recipe for your own taco seasoning (I think it might rival the premade packet ones!):
Taco Seasoning Blend
1 TB chili powder
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder (I had to use minced since I was out of powder)
1/8 – 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (however spicy you like!)
1/4 tsp pepper
Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl and mix into your cooked meat with a small amount of water and let simmer for a few minutes. You’re done!
Enjoy!
Stay tuned because I’ll be posting my Rachael Ray top 10 recipes of 2010 recipe #5: Coconut Chicken Cutlets! Woohoo! Almost halfway there!

oooh girl, can't wait to try this. my hubby loves his tacos :)
Love love love the dogs :)
Those dogs are so pretty, love getting to see pictures of them :-)
That taco seasoning most definitely rivals the packets...the packets are so gross. Half the ingredients in there are ridiculous and yours sounds so good and simple!
I have some fake meat crumbles, a bag of chips, guacamole, spinach, and all of those spices. Can you guess what I am going to do?!
That is so good that you make your own taco seasoning, that way you eliminate unnecessary preservatives and extra sodium.
I usually use packate seasoning, I use Bearitos brand.
Relaxing V-day plans you got there. Me and the fiance are heading out of town for a quick weekend getaway and celebrate Vday early.
So cool that you make your own taco seasoning!!!!!
I'll have to try it out soon!
Oh this is PERFECT, girlie! Thank you so much! The pics of the pups are adorable. :D
That's awesome! I loveee the packets of taco seasoning but not the 8000 mg of salt in them :D
i definitely use those spices when making my taco seasonings! great minds think alike, i suppose :)
A homemade recipe for taco dip is something I'm always on the lookout for! I hate buying the packets, only using a bit and throwing the rest away.
I didnt realize how easy it would be to make taco seasoning. that is great, I dont need to buy the premade packets anymore.
ps. your pups are precious
I've never even thought about making my own taco seasoning--I'll admit I just buy the packets at the store.
But if it really is this easy, I might have to give it a try!
Oh mamacita. Yum, yum!
Mmm, I definitely prefer a homemade taco seasoning blend over store-bought! Yours sounds perfect!
sooo cute!!! i love dogs!
mmmm, that sounds wonderful! i got my salsa in the mail the other day, but the jar had broken in half, lol! happy thursday!
I made homemade taco seasoning a couple weeks back and my husband declared it the best taco meat he's ever had! Your mix is pretty similar to mine, I bet it was so tasty!
Homemade taco seasoning is so much cheaper - and I think its better!
Since my hubby will be in the hospital on the actual V-day, we are celebrating Saturday night:
Ina Garten's scallops gratin; filet mignon with mushroom sauce, and wedding cake for dessert - its my husbands favorite kind of cake!
omg i have to make this! i hate having to buy the seasoning because sometimes it's too hot for me (i'm a wimp!) so now I can adjust it to my liking!
the dogs are so cute!
that looks like the seasoning mix we use- I much prefer just using the seasonings separately so you can adjust it to your own tastes, know exactly what's going in it and use them for different meals and spice combinations!
Your golden looks like mine in the face!
this is why I love you.
the homemade seasoning would NEVER EVER EVER cross this misfits mind.
what sweet pics of the dogs! i'll have to make a batch of your taco seasoning. you should bottle and give it away for the holidays!!
HAPPY FRIDAY!
Ooo I have a feeling the coconut chicken recipe will be great!
I need to mix some of this up and keep it handy - yum!
