Five Star Foodies Artichoke Burgers

Ah! With Body Pump training this weekend, I honestly felt like I had a million things I wanted to get done before I left. After a shortened work day, I did lots of laundry, ran some errands, gave Frank a bath, packed, and baked up a few dishes to keep Josh going through the weekend. I made him a big pasta bake with shell pasta, ground turkey, marinara and cheese (mix all together, top with additional cheese, bake at 350 for 20 minutes):

And I made him some Tina Bars with Chocolate chips:

Phew ;) As I mentioned about a week ago, The very nice people at Five Star Foodies were nice enough to send me some of their Artichoke burgers to try. According to the Five Start website, these fabulous burgers are vegan and 100% natural:

“Artichoke Burgers are in a class of their own, unlike anything on the market today. Filled with the rich taste of artichoke hearts and cashes combined with wholesome brown rice.”

Yum! Nutritional Stats can be found here. The picture below is from Josh’s version of the dinner. We cooked up the burgers on the stove top in just a little oil. Josh had one on an Arnold’s thin with cheese and one alone on the side (plus some potato rounds and an orange):

Sorry for the bad lighting! This getting dark early stuff stinks! Our thoughts on the burgers:
YUM! A great veggie burger. They taste almost like an artichoke Parmesan burger. They definitely have a slight "green" taste, but both Josh and I are HUGE green veggie fans so we really enjoyed it. We cannot WAIT to try them on the grill. Thank you Five Star Foodies!!!!
Alright guys- another request! I have to make a pot luck dish for work next week. I want something that I can make ahead and that’s preferably vegetarian-any suggestions?

I like to bring pasta salads or potato salads or something. I like to make a feta basil tomato salad... the recipe is somewhere in my blog if that sounds good. There is also a roasted veggie couscous salad that I made for our last work potluck. I think it is a Cooking Light recipe.

That pasta bake looks perfect for my hungry family. And easy too, because, uh, me and cooking don't get along lately (lazy??)

I love to make a big bean salad. You can make all different versions ... mexican with black beans, rice, cilantro, corn, avocado, jalapeno etc... or red kidney beans, carrots, celery, onion, etc. I always make light dressing with fresh lemon or lime to really bring out the flavors.

You are too sweet, making food ahead of time for the weekend.

A pasta or quinoa salad would be great I think. Easy enough to make and throw in some veggies.

Glad to hear those artichoke burgers were good!

Yum! Those burgers sound amazing!
For the pot luck I would recommend vegetarian chili or pizza dip!

I'm making Ina Garten's jalepeno cornbread for my work potluck next week. I made it last year, and it was a hit! It does involve 2 sticks of butter though...

Great review of the artichoke burgers :)

Potluck dish - blondies? ;)

Oo I have never heard of those burgers other than on your blog, but they sound fantastic. I really like the Boca parm burgers!

As for potluck dishes, a lot of my "winning" ones aren't completely vegetarian unfortunately.

Artichoke Parmesan-ish burger? That sounds amazing!! I'd love to get my hands on those.

Did you love having the OC ladies back? OC and NJ are my favorites so last night I was in heaven! Hope you have a great Friday :)

Those burgers sound great- I love artichoke!

My favourite dish to bring to a potluck is a pasta salad- cook spinach and ricotta tortellini and mix into a 'sauce' made from just chopped canned tomatoes and mayo (I have used Greek yogurt and it's delish!)

I LOVE artichokes! Theses burgers look delicious. :)

Oh, and for a potluck, I would suggest a big pot of veggie chili or a grain salad. I once brought a couscous salad to a potluck and everyone loved it. Here's the recipe if you are interested:

Ive heard alot about those artichoke burgers! I wanna try them!!! Thanks for the review..

As for a potluck dish, you could always do a couscous or quinoa mixture with a bunch of veggies and nuts.. it wouldnt have to be heated.. just eat cold! I always dice up some zuc, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, etc then mix it with the grain.. simple, simple!

Those burgers look GREAT!! I just love veggie burgers, probably more than the "real thing" even.

Hmmm...my fave would have to be a quinoa/black bean salad with cilantro. Maybe something like this?

That pasta bake looks good! We just had a delicious Mexican rice today with feta cheese in it, and Ward and I were both thinking what a great vegetarian one-dish meal it would make.

My fav pot luck food item is hummus! Do you have a food processor? It's totally something that you can make ahead - and you can bring crackers, veggies, pita chips, whatever to go along with it!

april said...

That veggie burger sounds so interesting! I don't know if I've ever eaten an artichoke.. they sound scary!

My dinner pictures have been horrible lately thanks to the sucky lighting!

My pot luck go to is always baked potatoes!

I bake them in my oven, wrap them in foil and put them in a basket with fat free sour cream and bacon bits.

Hopefully that will work! And its cheap!

Ok I will stop but let me know if you need other ideas:)
