I remember the first time Josh and I drove by this place, we both thought it looked weird and sort of dumpy! We soon after found out it had been featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives on the Food Network!
We finally made our way over there tonight to give it a try. Josh got the traditional Earth Dog with ketchup:
Both Josh and I enjoyed our dinners (actually, it was really dinner part 1- I knew since we were going to a hot dog restaurant for dinner I'd be finishing off dinner part 2 at home ;)), but we weren't really BLOWN away. The restaurants design is very cool, but the service was super slow. We also thought it was pretty expensive for hot dogs. We're glad we went and had the experience, but probably won't go back.
While I got the Bunny in a Bun (grilled carrots) without the coleslaw, plus mustard:

Tonight, we're doing a few things around the house. I also just baked up a batch of Jamaican Coconut Cornbread to bring to the other instructors at our Body Pump launch tomorrow:
I got the idea to make this from someone else, but I can't remember whose blog it was! So thank you to whoever brought this recipe to my attention!
Quick question: If you have a dog, what kind of food do you feed him/her? I have been feeding Frank Iams for some time, but am thinking about switching it up. I am going to mix in Rachael Ray's new food and give it a go. I gave Frank a few pieces today and he seemed to REALLY like it. You can get a free sample here.
Enjoy your Sunday!!

the only dog food i trust are those sold at whole foods. no crap, no chemicals, no fillers, and some of them are actually organic too.
I love triple D! Carrots and mustard eh? Was it good? I'll trust ya.
Your hot dog was made of carrots? That's kind of cool, actually.
Murphy eats some sort of Nutro for Sensitive Stomachs food. I forget the exact name.
They didn't have a veggie dog or anything? I wouldn't go back either if it was just carrots :) So easy to make at home, ya know?
We have a place on campus called Pauly Dogs that has all sorts of crazy concoctions on hot dogs.
Cornbread looks great!
We used to have a dog well actually at one point we had 5 (they bred!) anyway we fed them expensive stuff from the pet store that i am spacing out on the name :) that's helpful, isnt it!
LOL
the cornbread w/ coconut? nice!!!!!!!
A bunny bun? How cute! We feed our dog Natural Balance. It was the only truly gluten free dog food we could find.
Hey girl! Brittany at EBF and I are here at FitBloggin and drooling over your Coconut Corn Bread! I have to make this - you know my love affair with coconut ;)
I feed Lucy Dog the Rachel Ray dog food too - she LOVES it and I feel good about her eating it too :D
Harley is a Beneful puppy : )
Too bad that place was a bummer - especially if it was featured on Triple D. I LOVE that show!
The veggie hot dog sounds so interesting - sorry the place was a bit disappointing though. Happy weekend!
Diners, drive-ins, and dives! haha I used to love watching that show!! some of the food that came out of those restaurants was INSANE. I wondered how people could eat that stuff!! I do love me a good hot dog though- and I get weird cravings for them?!
Grilled carrots is so cute!!!
Your baking always looks fabulous!!! The cornbread and those AMAZING chocolatey mint cookies from your last post!!! yum-o!!!
hope your Sunday is wonderful!!
hugs, Miss Erica!!
You know, I love a good bbq'd hot dog about once a year. If I didn't have to think about what they actually are, I'd eat them more. I do enjoy an Ives veggie dog in their place.
My kitty gets fed Iams a lot of the time, or a store brand with a good rep, Presidents Choice. Our dogs are fed Purina Large Breed dog food, they pups, Purina Large Breed puppy food.
Wow that carrot dog looks different--not sure that would satisfy my appetite, but glad ya liked it.
We actually have to feed my bulldog high-priced(as in $80/bag every 2 weeks) vet prescribed food due to his extreme allergies.
I'm not a huge hot dog fan but that looks fun!
A bunny dog? That is too cute! Slow service is def a pet peeve, though.
Coconut corn bread sounds amazing. I'm off to check out the recipe...
Wow, the idea of the bunny dog is so cute! I love that they used grilled carrots as the 'dog.' It's always fun to try new places, but when you feel like they weren't that great for all the hype and money you spent, that's a bummer. The coconut bread, however, looks unbelievable!! I've got to get on that!
HEY gorgeous gal!!! the Bunny sounds tasty! I would have ordered it too...but definitely not enough food for din din, so i see the reason for disappointment! :( BUT the delicious BREAD that you baked looks YUM!! you are sooooo talented chica! I hope you have been having an awesome weekend!! My 3 doggies eat Iams too...but I am actually looking at switching them to a local company here in my town that boasts natural/organic vegetarian kibble and delivers for free!! hehe...so funny we are both on the same page with thinking about dog food this weekend!! xoxo!!!
hahaha i love your carrot in a bun! i'm definitely not a fan of hot dogs so that would for sure be round one for me too haha
we used to feed jj the trader joes lean dog food but then they stopped making it! such crap. we feed him some other kind of diet all natural dog food just bc he's gotten so fatty fat from his epilepsy meds haha
hmm i just buzzed you about the cornbread!
Omg, bunny in a bun is too cute!! haha!! But that would not fill me up - I'd definitely have to have dinner part 2!!
Thanks for passing along the free sample for RR's dog food!!
i've been to jack's once and i wasn't a fan either. i don't understand what all the hype is about. and yesss the service was so slow for me too. for hot dogs?? kinda weird.
I saw that episode! Sorry the restaurant was only so-so. It sounds pretty unique though - I've never seen a carrot dog before!
My puppers eats Science Diet Nature's Best!
Goodness... I haven't had a hot dog in SO long. Never really was a hot dog fan as a kid - always went for the burgers at cookouts. Cute that they have a grilled carrot dog!
Oh and forgot to say that we feed our cats Wellness brand food - it is made of actual whole food ingredients like chicken, cranberries, zucchini, flaxseed, etc. They make a dog food too.
I would never think to have grilled carrots + mustard in a sammie - but it sounds delish! I'm a condiment girl, what can I say?
That is so cool that they have a carrot dog! Love it!
It was my blog I think- I made that recipe as muffins. So delish!
Whoa!......you had my attention there with the title...My Triple D Experience....ha ha!
Oh, you meant the diner...lol!!
Never heard of a carrot dog either....what a concept...glad you enjoyed it though!
Have fun!
xoxo
Hate going out and having it be so-so: that's totally not the point of eating out is it!
No dogs in this family...I wish!
Carrot hot dog? lol, sounds interesting. Hope you're enjoying the end of your weekend!
Hi there girlie!
We love Sin Dawgs....I won them before in another giveaway!...yumm!
xoxo
Strange idea, carrots + mustard in place of a hot dog, but actually kind of cool that they have that option!
My dogs eat the generic stuff - we're switching them off diet food which they had been on for a while-when we first got our lab she was pretty overweight!
Man, I can't remember the last time I had hot dogs. Never heard of replacing it with carrots. I like the name bunny bun, though!
My doggies are so spoiled, we usually have to change up their food every month, atleast the flavor. We've been feeding them that Chef Michaels dog food lately, switching between the chicken and filet mignon , ohh la la, so fancy. hehe. THey really like it. It looks pretty good if I do say so myself. Just sayin. lol
fun triple d day! there are a couple of those diners here in philly that i'm dying to try! hope you've had a great weekend erica!
Oh cool that the restaurant was featured on triple D! Not so cool that it was just meh.
We feed Niko Innova food. It's organic, and she seems to like it pretty well. It's a little pricey, but she's so small it takes her months to go through a bag!
Urgh..that anonymous comment above is mine. Had a case of fat finger syndrome ;)
Hey lovely girl! No worries about the photos - I'm going to be collecting them for a little while yet! Hope your Sunday is treating you fabulously!
We always liked the Eukenuba for the dog. That is what the vet always recommended to us. Have a great week!
Oh man, thats sucks when a place doesn't live up to its name :(
I always love all the yummy breads you make ;) I love coconut so this bread will be made very soon! Hope you had a great weekend!
Carrots instead of sausage?
HOW COOL IS THAT?!
Hahahaha, loved it :)
Just found your blog, but I´m loving it, so far!
