E: Rosemary & Sunflower Seed Crackers

Happy Friday!! What are your weekend plans? We are going Josh/Mandi/Bryan’s work Christmas party tonight (maybe Mandi will post up some sweet pictures of us all dressed up tomorrow). Josh and I are also heading up to my parents house for dinner on Saturday. My Mom’s is throwing a neighborhood Christmas party on Sunday, so I will be baking up some tasty desserts tomorrow for her to lay out. I hope they turn out well!!

Lets face it, we all have those recipes that scare us. For me, this has always been crackers and soufflés. Now while I don’t plan to tackle the soufflé any time soon,  I did give in and tried my hand at a batch of rosemary & sunflower seed crackers yesterday. I used this recipe from food and wine, and only made a few slight adjustments.  I rolled my dough out on a floured cutting board, brushed it with oil and then cut it with a pizza cutter before placing the crackers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. The results were VERY yummy. I think they will be fabulous with hummus. Dough:

crackers 002

Half of the dough, rolled out:

crackers 004

Ready for the oven:crackers 005

And the finished product:

 crackers 007

crackers 008

crackers 009

Homemade baked goods make me never want to go back to store bought. What recipes scare you??

The crackers look awesome!!! I am deathly afraid to make anything with yeast. Ugh, I just hate the word.

  4. These look awesome, Erica! And I am posting later today about recipes that many ppl dont want to try b/c they are scared...one of them being fish! Yes, I cooked fish for Scott and am not scared of it now but used to be. I am sure b/c you cook differently for Josh, too, that you have had some things that were a little nerve racking (then again, maybe not b/c you're such a pro in the kitchen! ) but anyway...great job on these!! :)

Crackers have been popping up on blogs lately but I haven't really jumped on the wagon yet. They look so time intensive!

i'm afraid of souffles (ever since I saw "Because I Said So") since the baking has to be so precise.

  12. Oh these look great. I've only made crackers once and I think they were too thick. Good, just not quite right. For some reason, Indian cooking scares me....

  13. Nice! I've never made crackers but those look perfect.

This weekend we have loads of unpacking to do, putting up the Christmas tree and exploring our new neighborhood!

  14. Your crackers look great! The neat thing about crackers is that you can personalize them to taste like anything you want! Cinnamon sugar dipped into pumpkin dip or savory herb.

What about souffles make you nervous? I'll have to send you a no fail recipe. :)

Have fun this weekend! I will be working on papers, studying for a midterm, and two other exams. 3 more classes until break!

  16. I would love to try making homemade crackers. They look so fun and tasty!

I think I'm most terrified of roasting any kind of meat. I always leave the turkey, pork, and beef to the professionals. AKA Mom haha.

  26. Wow--your crackers look like they are straight from a box. You did great! I always go by the saying, "You never know if you don't try!" I am scared of making potica which is a traditional rolled holiday bread in my area..I may tackle it this year if I feel ambitious :-)

  30. I am scared by crackers, too! But yours look PERFECT! I would love to make crackers....and bread, too (as in, other than "dessert-ish" type bread - that I can handle). ;-) For some reason preparing a steak intimidates me SO much. Which is why I've never tried it. :-)

Have fun making your desserts, Erica!
